Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil depot in Jeddah has been hit by Yemen’s Houthis rebels with reports of drone and rockets strikes. [March 26, 2022].

Saudi Arabia has dropped more than 3,000,000 US-made cluster bombs on Yemen since 2015. These weapons are banned under international law. 260,000 children were killed in war on Yemen, not a single politician or leader was punished for these heinous war crimes or went to prison.

REPORTS

The war in Yemen will enter its eighth year this week with civilian casualties on the rise and unstoppable inflation. According to United Nations Official, “As of now, funding is drying up and agencies are stopping their work in Yemen,” [March 2022]

Historical Context

Saudi Arabia and its coalition backed the country’s official government and it has spent more than seven years fighting a rebel group of Yemen called Houthis, using its air strikes. It was started in 2011 when a popular uprising in Yemen forced its long-standing authoritarian president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, to hand over power to his deputy, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

Yemen’s neighbour Saudi Arabia was alarmed by the prospect of the Houthis taking control of Yemen slowly. It feared Saudi Arabia that it would become a satellite of its rival, Iran.
