Posted on October 18, 2020October 26, 2021 By Ajay Lilrain

Long Walk to Freedom is the second chapter from the book First Flight in class 10th. We will analyze this short story from board examination viewpoints.

Theme

Long Walk to Freedom is an autobiography written by Nelson Mandela and an excerpt of this book is taken into syllabus for First Flight Class 10th.

This chapter deal with the story of Apartheid in South Africa and struggle by Nelson Mandela and his associates for political emancipation from the prejudice and torture from white supremacy.

Major Points

Whenever any student prepare for this chapter. He must learn the definition of Apartheid. This is also an important point to learn that African National Congress is the political party that struggle against Apartheid.

Point #1

South Africa was born on 10th May 1994 and in the city of Pretoria, Nelson Mandela addressed the dignitaries across world in an grand ceremony of Independence and political emancipation of his people from the bondage of Apartheid.

He thanked all political leaders for their co-operation in the war against discrimination and slavery. He urged them to stay united for the future of South Africa.

Point #2

Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Chief Luthuli, Yusuf Dadoo, Bram Fischer, Robert Sobukwe were major leader in the fight of Apartheid in South Africa. Nelson Mandela writes about his views on courage taking these leaders in reference.

Point #3

One of the interesting facts is that the country has two national anthems. One for the black people and another one for white people.

Analysis

I have analyzed this short-story from board examination point of view. Previous 4 years board-examination question papers are analyzed to provide a suitable data to our students.

Question asked in Board Examinations

  1. What inauguration does Mandela talk about in this lesson? [C-2017]
  2. In which city of South Africa did the inauguration take place? [D-2017]
  3. Why were two national anthem sung in the South Africa? [A-2018]
  4. What did being free mean to Nelson Mandela? [B-2018]
  5. Why does Mandela thank the international leaders for? [A-2019]
  6. What were the two obligations Mandela described in this lesson? What was the reason he was not able to fulfill these obligations? [B-2019]
  7. What ideals does he set out for the future of South Africa? [C-2019]

Question No. 5 was repeated again in Code B year 2020. While Question no. 7 was repeated again in Code D year 2020.

If we take close look on the pattern for this chapter, few interesting things come to know? Starting from 2017, there are two or more than 2 questions came from Long Walk to Freedom in 2018, 2019 & 2020.

This make the chapter most important from examination point of view.

Another important point is that except in year 2020, no question was ever repeated in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Hence a student needs to prepare this chapter from multiple angles.

This chapter has so much potential for objective type questions. Hence prime focus is to learn trivial information from the chapter as much as possible.

Question no. 2 and Question no. 3 are technically trivial questions hence approved the statement.

Hyper-links are provided for all the important questions of this chapter.

Special Tips from Ajay Lilrain
