United States of America once deeply concerned by the human rights abuses by Nigerian Government but now US has approved a nearly $1 billion weapons sale to Nigeria. It is always a grave reality that black market of Weapon is always lucrative in the country. A low percentage of persons in military & government find ways to make some extra Dollors ($) on black market.
Secondly, it is assumed that Russia is present in Mali. United States also wants to defend its interest in West Africa. Amidst the war between Ukraine and Russia – Position of United States weaken and its hegemony challenged. These circumstance also motivated United States of America to approve weapon sale in Nigeria.
Assumption
Nigeria is present in the African Continent of this world. This nations has witnessed the worst humanitarian crisis in past 12 years of violence. According to the report published in UNDP, more than 350000 people have lost their life, majority of them were children.
Historical Context
Main reason of conflict is Boko-Haram, a fundamental Islamic outfit who wants to establish the rule of Sharia in the country. This armed group launched an uprising in 2009. Condition of Northeast Nigeria is worst due to continuous attacks in this region.
Boko-Haram opposes the westernization of Nigerian society and it is strict with Islamic Sharia rule of law. There are reports of continuous conflict between Nigerian forces and Boko-Haram activitists.
There is no crime, this outfit had not attempted in the country. Abduction, Rape, force marriages, trafficking of girls, killings etc. This group is not only active in Nigeria but it is also operational in Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
