According to report published in WHO, more than 700000 people are living under famine like situation and nearly 500000 people have lost their life in violence in Ethiopia’s Tigray region in the past year. Nearly 2000 children have died due to malnutrition. This is the biggest humanitarian crisis in this world.
According to Ethiopia News Agency, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing nearly 313 million USD in additional humanitarian assistance to help people affected by the conflict in northern Ethiopia. But there are group especially in Tigray’s region strongly opposing this assistance. This aid can be utilized by Ethiopian authorities to enhance the genocide of Tigray’s people, they argued.
In Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, a bloody civil war is now in its 16th month. This is a fight between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s forces and the rebel Tigray People’s Liberation Front. More than thousand people have died and two million people are forced to live their home amidst the conflict.
Many people who fled their country entered into Sudan i.e. another conflicted area of the region. It was said that Civilian structures in towns in Tigray, including hospitals, schools, factories, and businesses, were shelled, looted and destroyed by Ethiopian federal forces and regional militias, and by Eritrean armed forces.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch found that Amhara regional officials and regional special forces and militias, with federal forces’ complicity, are responsible for the ethnic cleansing of Tigrayans from Western Tigray.
