Indigo by Louis Fischer is the fifth chapter in the English Core XII book Flamingo. It was a memoir by Louis Fischer and this chapter is just not a story, it is a struggle. In 21st century, when we are heading towards a technological savvy world – this chapter reminds us the glorious history of emancipation from slavery.

Mahatma Gandhi is the main theme of this story. This chapter has the details of Champaran episode where farmers were struggling for their rights from British Government. How Gandhi fought for them and provide justice to the farmers is the central core of this chapter.

This is a chapter to learn Self-Reliance. Gandhi also taught us the lesson of health and hygiene. There is a episode in the chapter where after seeing the miserable health condition of the people; he sent volunteer doctors there for six months.

This is a chapter of awakening the farmers and teaching them the lesson that freedom from fear is more important than mere legal justice for their cause. These are little things but these things can have great impact on our lives.
